Trailor Power Assist (TPA) Debut in Norway with Mammoet ⠀ The system is being used to transport 23 running generators and 23 hubs along a critical section of the route to a wind farm site near the northern Norwegian town of Narvik. Mammoet were contracted by Deugro Danmark and Siemens Gamesa to complete the challenging section of the journey that required both powerful equipment and skilled operation to maintain the highest levels of safety. ⠀ Anders Bräuner, Sales Manager Mammoet Denmark, explains: “Safety is vital on every project. The four kilometer section of the route to the Narvik site that Mammoet were required to complete involved climbing an 18% gradient and navigating 12 to 14 hairpin bends. With each generator weighing 74 metric tons and each hub weighing 47, we needed to use the TPA system to maintain safety”. ⠀ TPA is a powered trailer system designed to improve transport efficiency and significantly lower the carbon footprint of long haul heavy transport projects. An alternative to SPMTs and conventional prime movers, it consists of six axle lines, the middle four of which are driven by a 1,000 horsepower hydraulic Power Pack Unit. This system delivers twice the pulling force of a conventional prime mover and offers significant improvements to the safety and efficiency of projects. ⠀ By reducing the number of vehicles needed to complete the transport, the TPA offers significant sustainability improvements. Reducing the carbon footprint of heavy lifting and transport equipment is becoming increasingly important and smart engineering solutions like the TPA are just one example of the ways in which Mammoet is working towards this project. ⠀ 🔴 http://heavy.world/ ⠀ #HEAVYWORLD #heavylift #heavylifting #heavyliftvessel #vessel #portage #hauling #oversizedcargo #cargo #seawayheavylifting #breakbulk #heavyload #projectcargo #containertransportation #tankcontainer #heavyhaulage #lowloader #oversizeload #heavyhaul #heavytransport

Washington Bridge Work Accelerated by Manitowoc MLC300 Ceccanti, a Tacoma, Washington-based construction company, needed a crane with superior maneuverability that could handle heavy loads at great heights to assist with the replacement of an old wooden bridge in Ridgefield, Washington. The contractor found the MLC300 crawler crane had the right features to get the job done in the shortest time possible. “We chose the MLC300 because of its superior capacity at radius and its maneuverability when compared to similar cranes in its range, and even larger cranes,” said Jake Brockmoller, project manager at Ceccanti. “This crawler crane’s radius allowed service of 75% of the job with help from the derrick barge. We would have certainly lost time and money if we had deployed other equipment.” The work in Ridgefield started last February. Initially, the contractor had the job scheduled to take 14 months to complete, but now it is going to wrap up approximately five months ahead of schedule, in November. By then, the single-lane wooden bridge will be replaced by a two-lane concrete bridge that will pass over railroad tracks on the opposite riverbank. Brockmoller explained that the MLC300 was positioned on a bulkhead built on the shore of the river. From there, the crane enabled Ceccanti to set shaft cages, position casings, place girders and all other construction support to take place without moving. The MLC300 lifted girders as heavy as 66.5 USt to heights of 65 ft and rebar cages as heavy as 61 USt to as high as 125 ft. Western Pacific Crane & Equipment (Western Pacific) was instrumental in helping Ceccanti find the best crane to efficiently complete the job in Ridgefield. Working from its Arlington, Washington regional facility, Western Pacific consulted with Ceccanti on the nature of the project and helped the company conclude that the MLC300’s strong load chart at long radii would be needed for the lifts from one side of the river. Western Pacific helped Ceccanti determine that the company could save money by deploying the MLC300 over alternative lifting strategies. 👇

Genoa’s New Bridge Takes Shape Assisted by Fagioli On Tuesday the 1st of October, a new phase started for the new Renzo Piano bridge in Genoa. After the demolition phase of the Morandi bridge, where Fagioli was involved with strand jacking system, SPMTs and crawler cranes for the dismantling and lowering of the old bridge sections, the company is now involved in the transport and lifting activity for the new bridge. For what concerns the transport activity, Fagioli is moving by barge and by modular trailers a total amount of No. 237 sections (weighing from 56 to 89 ton) which are going to be used to build the viaduct. Fagioli will be involved for a total of 60 nights for the transport of the sections. In the meantime, on the 1st of October, Fagioli lifted a 500 ton steel structure (50 m long) by means of two crawler cranes, as the first step of the new bridge in Genoa. The viaduct, shaped like a sail , as imagined by the famous architect Renzo Piano, is going to reflect Genoa’s seafaring heritage, and it’s expected to be ready by next year. The lifting and installation operation of this first section was held in the presence of the Italian Prime Minister , Mr. Giuseppe Conte. http://heavy.world/ #HEAVYWORLD #heavylift #heavylifting #heavyliftvessel #vessel #portage #hauling #oversizedcargo #cargo #seawayheavylifting #breakbulk #heavyload #projectcargo #containertransportation #tankcontainer #heavyhaulage #lowloader #oversizeload #heavyhaul #heavytransport

DEME Offshore’s Sea Challenger Completes the 1,218MW Installation on Hornsea One On 3 October 2019, DEME Offshore’s ‘Sea Challenger’ and crew completed the installation of 174 SWT-7.0 MW turbines on Hornsea One, the world’s largest offshore wind farm. “I am very proud to announce that DEME Offshore’s ‘Sea Challenger’ and crew, together with our client and colleagues from Ørsted, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy and Fred. Olsen Wind Carrier have now finalised the installation of the turbines at the Hornsea One offshore wind farm. I would like to extend a special thanks and congratulations to the entire team behind the operation for an outstanding safety performance as well as a smooth project execution,” says Michael Glavind, Business Unit Director at DEME Offshore. On board the vessel, Master, Jack Amtsbiller, is also very pleased with the project. “Being part of building the world’s largest wind farm has been a great experience for us. We started on the project in February 2019 and installed the last turbine on 3 October 2019. The construction of Hornsea One is another step towards a greener future, not only for us, but also for the next generations. It has been a pleasure to work closely together with Ørsted and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy. We have been working as one close team on board of the ‘Sea Challenger’ rather than as three different companies.” Ørsted owns 50% of the 1,218 MW Hornsea One offshore wind farm and divested 50% to Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) in 2018. The wind farm is located 120 km off the Yorkshire coast and when fully commissioned, it will power well over one million homes with renewable energy. http://heavy.world/ #HEAVYWORLD #heavylift #heavylifting #heavyliftvessel #vessel #portage #hauling #oversizedcargo #cargo #seawayheavylifting #breakbulk #heavyload #projectcargo #containertransportation #tankcontainer #heavyhaulage #lowloader #oversizeload #heavyhaul #heavytransport

Weighing and Load-out by Sarens in Malaysia ⠀ Sarens was commissioned by Sapura Fabrication Sdn to carry out the weighing and load-out of three NOC jackets at their yard in Lumut, Perak, Malaysia. ⠀ The 273-acre Sapura Fabrication Yard in Lumut is located 3km off the Straits of Malacca allowing easy access to both the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea. The yard is equipped with a fully integrated computerized yard management system that links its engineering, planning, quality management, procurement, warehouse, and component production centre. ⠀ Our crew decided to deploy four sets of 100 axle lines with different configuration of trailers to perform the operation. The team selected the number and configuration of axle lines considering the GBP, loading conditions, and trailer’s integrity on bendings. Sarens also supplied ballast pumps to perform the load-out activities. The trailers were assembled in two days to swiftly execute the task. ⠀ The team performed the weighing-in of the three NOC jackets by using 8x600T jacks and loadcells. Three units of NOC Jackets weighed between 1700T to 1800T. Next the team perfomed the load-out using 18 bridges, 12 deck pumps, and around 150T of mats and beams. The jackets were then transported to the Sapura Energy Jetty which was 500m away from the fabrication yard. ⠀ The complete operation took around two weeks and was executed by our crew of 15 members. ⠀ 🔴 http://heavy.world/ ⠀ #HEAVYWORLD #heavylift #heavylifting #heavyliftvessel #vessel #portage #hauling #oversizedcargo #cargo #seawayheavylifting #breakbulk #heavyload #projectcargo #containertransportation #tankcontainer #heavyhaulage #lowloader #oversizeload #heavyhaul #heavytransport

Custom Engineering Enables ALE’s Challenging Czech Carriage Tisova Power Station is located in Karlovarsky, Czech Republic, and provides around 300MW of power to around 50,000 people in the town of Karlovy Vary. It has existed since 1954, and due to the short expected operational life of power stations has undergone a series of revisions throughout the 1950s, 1960s and 1990s. In this instance, a GE 9E.03 turbine that had reached the end of its working lifecycle needed replacement with an updated 9E.04 model. ALE was chosen to complete this project, with its track record of performing moves under tight physical constraints and to the narrow time windows required to ensure supply continuity. At the project’s outset, the 205t 9E.03 turbine was settled onto its foundations, meaning a conventional lift was not possible. ALE’s engineers worked in partnership with GE to design bespoke, manufacturer-approved jacking brackets that were screwed into the base of the turbine to provide suitable jacking points. Using these, the turbine was jacked-up, and a skidding system installed underneath. The turbine was then skidded 15m transversally to a position above 12 axle lines of SPMT in a 2 x 6 configuration. The turbine was transported out of the building and lowered onto supports within a storage area using the stroke of the SPMT, for later disposal. The incoming 220t 9E.04 turbine was then fitted with the same custom jacking brackets and jacked-up 1.5m to allow passage of an SPMT underneath. It was transported into the turbine building and skidded transversally into position, in a mirror image of the earlier removal procedure. There was a nine-day time window set aside for the project, during which the old turbine was removed and the new one installed. Completing the exchange successfully required the work of two crews working day and night shifts. This work followed on from a previous ALE project to replace the first 9E.03 turbine to reach end-of-life at the plant. Offering 99% reliability, the new 9E.04 turbines will now provide a more reliable electricity supply to neighbouring homes and businesses. http://heavy.world/ #HEAVYWORLD #heavylift #heavylifting #heavyli

Ainscough Work With Balfour Beatty in Scotland Ainscough Crane Hire has completed its first lift as part of Balfour Beatty’s work on an ambitious roadbuilding programme in Scotland. Transport Scotland appointed Balfour Beatty to undertake the second phase section of the A9 Dualling Programme, which will upgrade 9.5km of single carriageway from Luncarty to the Pass of Birnam. The A9 Dualling Programme will upgrade 80 miles (129 kilometres) of road from single to dual carriageway. Transport Scotland’s £3 billion programme is designed to deliver economic growth through improved road safety and reliable and quicker journey times, as well as better links to pedestrian, cycling and public transport facilities. As part of Balfour Beatty’s work on the A9 Dualling: Luncarty to Pass of Birnam project, it has enlisted Ainscough Carne Hire as the sole supplier to lift four structures into place over the new dual carriageway. Balfour Beatty is using its own appointed persons for all cranes under 100t on the project but has enlisted Ainscough’s experience and expertise to supervise activity with all heavier capacity cranes. Ainscough utilised a 750t crane to lift 15 pre-cast concrete beams into place that will form part of a new Stanley/ Tully Belton junction above the A9 carriageway, near Perth. Ainscough also deployed a LTM 1500t crane to install culverts, closed tunnels that allow water to flow under a road, with another two visits planned for further installations. Ainscough is set to deliver three more structures as part of the A9 Dualling: Luncarty to Pass of Birnam project. Adrian Hanson, Business Development Manager – Falkirk depot, Ainscough Crane Hire, said: “It’s a great honour for Ainscough Crane Hire to be the sole lifting supplier for such a prestigious job. When complete, the A9 Dualling: Luncarty to Pass of Birnam project will play a key role in the future economic development of Scotland, and we look forward to continuing to work with Balfour Beatty on this key phase in Transport Scotland’s ambitious vision.” Karl Eckelkamp, Balfour Beatty foreman, said: “The professionalism and team work of Ainscough helped us achieve a successful beam lift operation sa

Khimji Ramdas Completes Haulage & Loading of Pressure Separators in Oman Khimji Ramdas Projects & Logistics Group have recently completed the inland haulage and loading of 5 units of high and low pressure separators in Oman for their export to Kuwait. The project, executed in coordination with the Ministry of Transport and the Royal Oman Police (ROP), involved 1200mtns of separators transported over 700km from Nizwa Industrial Estate to the Port of Duqm and then the subsequent loading onto chartered vessels heading to Kuwait. Separators are pressure vessels used for separating an oil well stream into gaseous and liquid components. The separators are the first of their kind to be manufactured and exported from Oman. While the low pressure (LP) separators were the longest at 27.3m, the high pressure (HP) separators were the heaviest at 322tns. Each piece was moved in consultation with and with permission from the Ministry of Transport and the Royal Oman Police, with police escort vehicles accompanying. Each unit took 4 days on the route and were stored on stools and beams at the port premises until the vessels arrivals before being loaded onto the suitable bulk cargo carriers. Multi-axle trailers with 2-file x 18-axle combinations were used for the inland haulage of the 5 units. http://heavy.world/ #HEAVYWORLD #heavylift #heavylifting #heavyliftvessel #vessel #portage #hauling #oversizedcargo #cargo #seawayheavylifting #breakbulk #heavyload #projectcargo #containertransportation #tankcontainer #heavyhaulage #lowloader #oversizeload #heavyhaul #heavytransport
