Retro series | In August 1975, pilot Siegfried Stangier and Beat Perren, as a flight assistant and winch operator, carried out the first rescue in the Badile northeast face. Due to bad weather, two mountain guide aspirants from Valais had to bivouac for more than 80 hours in the open air at about 200m below the summit. In a very difficult helicopter operation, the stranded alpinists could be rescued by winch which was extended with climbing ropes to reach them. An excerpt of this rescue, which is described in detail by Sigi Stangier in his book “Retter, die vom Himmel kommen”, can be read in the book "Pioniere der Bergrettung".
