As a former Mayor of this place 😂 I've been down here in all kinds of weather. But this last storm was the most brutal I have seen, including Jonas a couple of years ago. The combination of wind and snow and ice and cold out here by the waterfront turned it into a kind of war zone where advancing a few blocks took all the determination and guts one had, virtually emptying what is normally a bustling place on any Saturday and leaving only a mad or unlucky few to witness the stark, frozen beauty of the "cyclone bomb" going off. My hat is off to those who dared cross the bridges on foot this morning---but only briefly or I fear my ears might freeze solid! According to the weather folks this is the bottom of this historic deep freeze and it will only get better from here out. It was 2° F when I woke up this morning in Upstate New York so unless you're in Wisconsin or Minnesota or somewhere worse I don't wanna hear about how cold it is today! 😷 Headed back to the City rn to get ready for the New Year. For the rest of this one I may do a little "year in review" of what was 2017. One of the best times of the year for me was the fall, which seemed to last forever and which produced more vibrant colors than any fall I can remember in the City. This is a favorite from one of the many afternoons I found myself drawn to Central Park, here in the upper West Side regions near Belvedere Castle, where the trees get thick and the City almost disappears behind them. And so it's Christmas Eve again, finally, impossibly, and somehow all of us have made it here once more, a time for reflection on the year that's passed and for gratitude to be shared with all those who helped us on the way. I did not have the easiest time of it this year---I'm sure I'm not the only one---and yet I'm thankful as ever for all of you guys, who very literally picked me back up when I was down and gave me a reason to go on despite countless setbacks. With your help, I turned the most difficult year of my life into the year in which I accomplished more than ever in my creative work, including, among other things, publishing my first book, appearing in another and even being interviewed on @abc7ny for it. Friday night when I got off work I went up to Times Square to catch a few shots of the snow. At one point when I got up from shooting a few of these I turned around and there was another guy about ten feet behind me crouched down just like I had been with a camera aimed directly at where I had been. I caught his eye, thinking I would recognize him as one of my IGer friends but I didn't. Instead he got up and quickly said to me "We got a little Inception thing going on here buddy!" before both of us were washed away by the waves of pedestrians.
